PART 2
The Letter Behind the Door
When Julian opened the envelope, his expression changed instantly.
Margaret stood beside him, holding two small blue blankets she had prepared for the twins. Siena watched in silence while the rest of the family waited for an explanation.
“Where are the children?” Margaret asked.
Julian didn’t answer.
Inside the envelope were legal documents, an emergency request concerning custody of the babies, and a temporary review of certain family assets.
But one item caught his attention immediately.
A photograph.
It showed Julian and Siena entering a private bank several months earlier. Julian was carrying a folder connected to a company called Marston Holdings.
Claire’s name appeared on several of the documents.
Yet she had never authorized any of those transactions.
Margaret took the photograph.
“What does this mean?”
“Nothing,” Julian answered far too quickly.
But the following pages told a very different story.
There were financial transfers, property records, and documents Claire had never seen before.
In the middle of the file was a note written in Claire’s handwriting:
“You wanted to control everything.
Now everything will be investigated.”
Siena slowly removed her glasses.
“Julian…”
He avoided her eyes.
“You should go home.”
For the first time, Siena realized that something had changed.
Shortly afterward, several legal representatives arrived with a court authorization.
“This house belongs to my son,” Margaret protested.
“The property is connected to both spouses. We need to review the shared assets,” one of the representatives replied.
Julian tried to defend himself.
“Claire agreed to an arrangement.”
“Then show us the complete document,” the representative calmly replied.
The room fell silent.
Julian only had part of the agreement.
The final pages contained conditions he had never taken into account.
The document was not the victory he had expected.
The entire situation still needed to be investigated.
Meanwhile, Claire was staying with her attorney, Naomi Reyes, in a secure location.
The twins were sleeping peacefully near the window.
“You should get some rest,” Naomi advised.
“I spent too long believing everything he told me.”
“You trusted your husband.”
Claire looked down at her children.
“I always found an excuse for him.”
Then she asked:
“Will the order remain in effect?”
“For now, yes. Julian will probably request a hearing, but we have enough evidence.”
A few weeks before the twins were born, Claire had overheard a conversation that completely changed the way she viewed the situation.
Julian and Margaret had been discussing several documents they wanted Claire to sign quickly.
That was when Claire realized she needed to protect her children and discover what was really happening.
She kept the evidence.
She sought help.
And she waited for the right moment.
That evening, Siena called.
“Did you know all of this?” she asked.
“I knew enough,” Claire replied.
“Then why did you stay?”
“Because I wanted to know the whole truth before making a decision.”
A long silence followed.
“Julian loves me,” Siena whispered.
Claire looked at Naomi before answering.
“Then ask him.”
For the first time, Siena had no answer.
PART 3
The Truth That Had Been Hidden
After ending the call with Siena, Naomi remained silent for a few seconds.
“She was very cold.”
“I learned from his family,” I replied.
That same night, Julian tried to contact me several times.
At first, his messages were filled with confidence.
Then they began to change.
“Claire, we can work this out.”
“I don’t want to lose the children.”
“Siena means nothing.”
“I never wanted to separate you from them.”
The final message arrived shortly before midnight.
“I know where you are.”
Naomi read it twice.
Then she immediately called security.
Minutes later, we left the residence.
The twins were moved to a protected location.
During the drive, I watched the vehicles traveling behind us.
“Do you think he really knows where we are?” I asked.
“No,” Naomi replied. “But he wants you to think he does.”
The next morning, we went to court.

I wore a dark blue dress and kept only my wedding ring.
Naomi noticed it.
“You’re still wearing it?”
“I want him to see what he lost.”
Julian arrived at the courthouse with his mother and his attorney. He looked calm and concerned at the same time, as if he had prepared his own version of the story.
When he saw me, he approached.
“Where are the children?”
“They’re safe.”
“They’re my children too.”
“And I’m their mother.”
The hearing began.
Julian’s legal team presented the situation as nothing more than a family dispute.
Then Naomi began presenting the evidence.
First came a recording of a conversation between Julian and Margaret.
Then came the documents connected to Marston Holdings, including financial transfers and transactions Claire had never authorized.
Finally, Naomi presented a recording made at the hospital after the twins were born.
The courtroom fell completely silent.
The judge ordered that Claire retain temporary custody of the babies while the investigation continued.
After the hearing, Julian caught up with her near the elevators.
“Claire, I need to tell you something.”
Naomi immediately stepped between them.
“Speak only through your attorneys.”
Julian lowered his eyes.
“Marston Holdings wasn’t my idea.”
Claire was stunned.
“Then whose idea was it?”
Julian looked toward his mother.
For a few seconds, Margaret appeared nervous.
“My mother chose you before we had even met,” Julian admitted.
Claire stood motionless.
“What does that mean?”
“She knew your family. She also knew about the inheritance your father left you.”
Naomi immediately stepped in.
“What else are you hiding?”
Julian glanced toward the cameras in the hallway.
“I can’t talk here.”
“Then tell the investigators,” Naomi replied.
Before leaving, Julian said something that changed everything:
“Siena didn’t leave because of the money. She left because she discovered that the children were never the real objective.”
We returned to the secure residence.
But something was wrong.
The twins’ room was empty.
The blankets were still on their beds.
A bottle remained on the table.
But the babies were gone.
Naomi immediately contacted security.
The cameras were still operating.
The alarms had not been triggered.
Yet for several minutes, the recordings showed exactly the same empty hallway.
Someone had tampered with the system.
Then my phone vibrated.
A message appeared from an unknown number.
“Do not contact Julian.”
A photograph followed.
The twins were together and appeared to be safe.
Between them was a symbol I recognized immediately.
It was the emblem of my father’s family.
A second message appeared:
“Come to the Marston estate before sunset.”
Naomi wanted to contact the investigators.
But I had noticed something in the photograph.
A mirror.
And in the reflection was a person wearing a ring with an emerald stone.
It was the exact same ring Margaret had worn for years.
Then my phone rang again.
It was Victor Hale, my father’s former business partner.
His voice was calm.
“Claire, I’m sorry you discovered everything this way.”
“Where are my children?”
“They are exactly where your father wanted them to be.”
I fell silent.
“My father is gone.”
After a long pause, Victor answered:
“No, Claire.”
Then I heard a familiar voice on the other end of the call.
“Your father is waiting for you.”
