PART 2: THE GIRL WITH THE OLD PHOTOGRAPH

PART 2: THE GIRL WITH THE OLD PHOTOGRAPH

The guests gasped.

Champagne glasses froze halfway to their lips as phones slowly rose to capture the scene.

Standing above the little girl was Victoria Hale, dressed in a flawless cream coat, diamond earrings sparkling beneath the hotel lights.

“Let go of my bag!”

The girl’s dirty shoes scraped against the polished marble as Victoria pulled harder. But the child refused to release the leather strap.

Rainwater dripped from her tangled hair onto the spotless floor.

“She stole it,” someone whispered.

The crowd immediately believed Victoria.

After all, the girl looked homeless, while Victoria looked wealthy and untouchable.

A security guard approached, but hesitated when he saw the child’s expression.

She wasn’t crying.

She wasn’t begging.

She was simply holding on with frightening determination.

“You filthy little liar!” Victoria snapped.

Then the girl slowly looked up.

“It’s not yours.”

The entire lobby went silent.

Victoria froze.

“What did you say?”

The girl reached inside the designer bag with trembling fingers.

Victoria’s face suddenly changed.

“No.”

The child pulled out an old photograph.

It showed a much younger Victoria standing beside another woman holding a newborn baby wrapped in a pink blanket.

The security guard stared at the picture.

Then at the girl.

The resemblance was undeniable.

“Oh my God…”

Victoria stumbled backward.

“You don’t understand.”

But the girl whispered:

“She said you took everything.”

She turned the photograph over.

On the back, faded handwriting read:

“For my sister Victoria. Promise me you’ll protect her if anything happens to me.”

Victoria’s knees nearly buckled.

The girl’s eyes filled with tears.

“You promised my mommy…”

Her voice broke.

“…before she died.”

Victoria covered her mouth.

Because she suddenly recognized the pink blanket.

It was the same blanket wrapped around the baby she had spent eight years pretending never existed.

Then the girl whispered:

“Aunt Victoria…”

The designer bag slipped from Victoria’s hand and crashed onto the marble floor.

And in that moment, the entire hotel realized that the little girl wasn’t a thief.

She was the secret Victoria had spent eight years trying to bury.
