Part 2: The Morning After My Wedding, I Found Something Strange on the Bed

My wedding day had been exhausting.

After hours of welcoming relatives, smiling for photographs, and making sure every guest was comfortable, all I wanted was to finally be alone with my new husband. When I entered our bedroom that night, I imagined the first quiet moment of our married life beginning there.

But I barely had time to remove my makeup before the door opened.

My husband stood there, looking uneasy.

“Mom has had too much to drink,” he said. “She needs somewhere quiet to rest. Could she stay here for tonight?”

I stared at him, convinced I had misunderstood.

His mother had always been a strong-willed woman who liked things done her way. Now she appeared at the doorway holding a pillow, clearly unsteady on her feet.

I was uncomfortable, but I didn’t want to create an argument on our wedding night.

“Just for tonight,” my husband repeated.

Those words hurt more than I wanted to admit.

I gathered my things and made up a place for myself on the sofa. It was supposed to be my wedding night, yet I was suddenly sleeping outside my own bedroom.

For hours, I couldn’t settle down.

The house had become quiet, but every now and then I heard movement upstairs. There were faint footsteps, a creaking floorboard, and then complete silence again.

I kept wondering whether I had made a mistake by saying nothing.

Eventually, exhaustion won.

When I woke, it was close to six in the morning.

My first thought was that I needed to wake my husband. Our relatives would soon be arriving, and I wanted to start the morning without another argument.

I walked upstairs and quietly opened the bedroom door.

Then I stopped.

My husband was lying on the bed.

His mother was beside him.

For a few seconds, I couldn’t process what I was seeing. I had willingly given up the room because I believed she needed somewhere peaceful to recover.

But something on the bed immediately caught my attention.

I stepped closer and looked at the white sheet.

There was something attached to it.

I reached toward it, then hesitated.

My heart began beating faster.

Whatever had happened during the night, I suddenly realized that my decision to remain silent might have been a mistake.

I carefully picked up the strange item and stared at it.

I was completely speechless.

It was something I had never expected to find there—and suddenly, the questions I had been trying to ignore since the previous evening came rushing back.

Why had my mother-in-law insisted on staying in our room?

Why had my husband been so quick to agree?

And most importantly…

What exactly had happened while I was sleeping downstairs?

That morning, before anyone else could explain what I had found, I knew one thing for certain:

My wedding night had not gone the way I thought it had.
